Málaga CF will reach 600 matches in Gijón

Málaga CF are visiting Gijón on Wednesday to face Real Sporting in the 30th LaLiga Santander match. This will mark the Club’s 600th match in the top flight of Spanish football.

Murcia-born referee, Sánchez Martínez will be officiating tomorrow. He has previously refereed Málaga CF in the elite four times, resulting in one victory (4-1 against UD Las Palmas, the 38th match of 2015/16), and three defeats for the Blue and Whites. This will be the sixth clash between Sporting and MCF, at El Molinón, in the First Division. The balance of results up to now; one victory, one draw and three defeats for the Malaguistas, with six goals in favour and eight conceded.

600 matches | MCF – First Division

This Wednesday 5th April in Gijón, at 20:30, Málaga CF will play their 600th match in the First Division, since the 1999 debut. Below is a list of the centenary matches:

The first Sporting-Málaga CF

On 17th May 2009, Sporting de Gijón and Málaga CF faced each other for the first time in the First Division, at El Molinón. It was the 36th match of the 2008/09 season, which ended in a 2-1 win for the locals (Gerard and a Rosario own goal / Weligton). Antonio Tapia selected the following Malaguista line-up: Goitia; Jesús Gámez, Hélder Rosario, Weligton, Nacho (Rossato 77’); Eliseu, Miguel Ángel (Adrián 59’), Apoño, Duda; Baha (Adriano Ferreira ’59) and Alberto Luque.
