Málaga CF statement

Málaga Club de Fútbol wishes to express its disagreement in relation to two crucial arbitration decisions in the matches against UD Las Palmas and, last night, against Levante UD.

The Entity considers it has been severely penalised during a key stage of the 22/23 season.

The intervention that occurred in two specific plays by the referees, featuring the audio-visual support of the VAR, has not been assessed with the same standards despite the obvious similarities. This different interpretation does not seem plausible.

In minute 4 of the UD Las Palmas - Málaga CF game, the VAR signalled to the referee a penalty in favour of the locals due to a handball by Esteban Burgos. However, at 90+8' of Málaga CF - Levante UD, visitor Álex Muñoz made contact with the ball with his arm fully extended. This play was not penalised, going completely unnoticed.

This inconsistency of criteria supposes an obvious comparative grievance and has generated deep discomfort within the Club.

As such, for our great fans, coaches, players, the club itself, the employees, the shield, and the city and province of Málaga, we ask for respect. Yes, respect for Málaga Club de Fútbol.

The Entity will submit a formal complaint to the Technical Committee of Referees.
