Málaga CF-Real Madrid CF (1-1)

The most suffered salvation in history? Possibly. Muñiz’s Málaga clung on to safety until the last second of the final match of the 09/10 season. And they did it. Epic.

On 16th May 2010, just over a decade ago, matchday 38 was in play, the final match of the season in the First Division. Málaga CF hosted Pellegrini’s Real Madrid at La Rosaleda, with the Whites still having options, albeit a few, to win the League championship. Duda scored first and Van der Vaart went level for the visitors.

You could have cut the atmosphere with a knife, on a day full of blood, sweat and tears. The final 1-1 draw ensured the Blue and Whites remained in the elite. The Málaga fans held their breath for 90 minutes and exploded with relief at the full-time whistle, ‘helped’ along by Alexis’ goal in Valencia.

Hit play... suffer and enjoy!
