Lombán brings strength and consistency to the defence

Málaga CF incorporates David Lombán to the squad, a defender who arrives on a free transfer after ending his relationship with SD Eibar in June. His contract extends until the 2019/20 season.

The new Blue and Whites’ player passed the medical today, Friday and will be presented next week at the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda.

Career

David Rodríguez Lombán was born in Avilés, Asturias, on 5th June 1987. A central defender of strong build (1’85 metres, 79 kg.), he is forceful in his actions and has been consistent in his performance with numerous teams throughout his career. Not in vain, between the League (First and Second Division) and Copa del Rey, he has taken part in 274 matches (260 in the starting line-up and 245 complete games) and scored 16 goals, a relevant number for a defensive player.

Formed in the youth ranks of Valencia CF, Lombán debuted in the elite at 20 years of age with Valencia in 2007/08, taking part in two Copa del Rey matches, that the team then coached by Ronald Koeman won. Subsequently, between 2009 and 2013, he played four seasons in the Second Division with Salamanca, Xerez (2 years) and FC Barcelona’s reserve team.

Recent seasons

Lombán took part in the highest national competition without interruption for the past five seasons. Elche CF (2013-15), Granada CF (2015-17) and SD Eibar last year, are the teams with whom he accumulated 130 games in the league and 15 in the Copa del Rey, an average of 29 matches per season.

International

The defender from Asturias was an international with Spain’s lower categories, both with the U-20s (1 time) and the U-17s (11 times, 1 goal).
