Less intense training session for Weligton and Onyewu at Athletics Stadium

Málaga CF was back to work this morning at the Ciudad de Málaga Athletics Stadium, the second session of the week. Portillo held today’s press conference before training got underway.

The session consisted of continuous running, stretching, rounds, physical exercises, goal-shooting practice and mini-matches on three specially adapted pitches.  Weligton underwent a less intense session, whilst Onyewu exercised in the gym, suffering with a sprain to his left ankle.  Reserve players, Pol, Jurado, Fabrice, Óscar Sielva and youth player, Pol Ballesté were in training with the first team today.

The team is back to work tomorrow morning at 10 at the Athletics Stadium.

Statements by Portillo

“We’ve not had the best run of luck in 2013, which is why last weekend’s win was so important in getting us back up the League table.  We can’t rest on our laurels as we’ve had a few setbacks in recent home games.  Last Sunday’s victory really spurred us on and we’re determined to continue our winning ways at home.”

“Every match is different; but we’ve performed better against the bigger teams.  We’ve got an important match ahead of us on Sunday in order to keep the three points at home.  The new early kick-off time is great for families and children to attend the match.”
