Las Palmas, kilometre 30

The team claimed a good point away from home at Estadio Gran Canaria last Friday. Despite trailing on the scoreboard, Málaga managed to go level to come back with a positive result.

The opportunism of Lombán

The second consecutive match with a goal from the Malaguista central defender, both from a set piece, and his third goal of the season. Only Sadiku (10) and Adrián (6) have scored more goals than Lombán in 19/20. Cunning, mischievous and knowing how to place himself in the rival area are all key to a player who has accumulated a good number of goals during his career, despite being a defender.

Munir, decisive

The goalkeeper from Melilla was fundamental. He made six saves in total, managing to overcome Rubén Castro. In particular, he was key with his notable intervention just before Lombán equalised, preventing the locals taking a 2-0 lead. In 27 matches, Munir has conceded 22 goals. His coefficient (0’81) is better than the current ‘Zamora’ of the category, Cifuentes from Cádiz (0'86).

Dreaming of the top, breathing room from the bottom

The matchday leaves Málaga CF, with 12 games remaining until the end of the competition, as close to dreaming as they are to suffering. Once again, this season of LaLiga SmartBank is incredibly tight. Without going any further, with 38 points, MCF are in the middle of the table along with Numancia, Las Palmas and Sporting de Gijón. In sixth place (Elche, 43 points) and 19th (Lugo, 33 points) are the teams marking the path to the top… or the road to the bottom.

One third of the competition, one defeat

The team dynamic in the second phase of the league is remarkable. Out of the past 14 games, one particular fact stands out. The team suffered just one defeat, at the always tough Elche ground on matchday 26. Five victories and eight draws, that is, 23 out of a possible 38 points giving colour to an increasingly brilliant result sheet.
