Larrubia’s journey with Spain’s U-17s comes to an end

Spain were eliminated from the Under-17 World Cup in the quarter finals held in Brazil. Larrubia didn’t play any minutes in the second phase of the tournament.

David Gordo’s team was defeated yesterday against France (1-6) at the Olympic stadium in Goiânia, ending their World Cup journey.

Young Malaguista, David Larrubia didn’t take part in the quarter finals or the Round of 16, but he was in action in the first phase of the competition, playing 69 minutes in two matches and scoring a great goal

History

Larrubia is the third MCF player to take part in an Under-17 World Cup, after Álvaro Fernández (World Cup runner-up in India 2017) and Edu Ramos (bronze medal in World Cup in Nigeria 2009). This is the list of players who later joined the Málaga CF discipline – or the reserve team – who participated in the U-17 World Cup:

  • Italy 1991 – Sandro and Gerardo (Runners-up)
  • Egypt 1997 – César Navas (third place)
  • Trinidad and Tobago 2001 – Senel (10th place)
  • Finland 2003 – Sergio Sánchez (Runner-up)
  • South Korea 2007 – Ignacio Camacho and Jordi Pablo (Runners-up)
  • Nigeria 2009 – Borja Bastón and Isco (third place)

In the 1985, 1987, 1989 (these first three as the U-16 World Cup) 1993, 2005, 2011, 2013 and 2015 editions of the World Cup, the Spanish team did not participate, this one being the only major tournament that the national team lacks in its lower categories.
