An emotional minute’s silence was held at La Rosaleda in the run up to #MálagaGranada in memory of former Malaguista player Santiago ‘Chato’ Aragón who recently passed away. Rest in peace.
Just before the start of the Andalusian duel at Martiricos between Málaga CF and Granada CF, the fans observed a respectful and solemn minute’s silence for former CD Málaga player Santiago Aragón García, affectionately known as 'Chato', who passed away this week at the age of 81.
Born in La Rinconada (Sevilla) in 1941, Aragón forged a very important career in the now extinct Club Deportivo Málaga after joining Atlético Malagueño. He played eight consecutive seasons with the Blue and Whites between 1964 and 1972.
During his time as a Malaguista, he was part of three promotions to the First Division, in the 64/65, 66/67 (as league champion) and 69/70 seasons. Aragón, a quality winger, wore the Málaga jersey 69 times in the elite (6 goals) and 64 in the silver division (9 goals), plus 4 promotion games to the First Division in which he scored a goal. In addition, he played 19 games in the Copa de España (1 goal).
His last campaign at the club was 71/72, with CD Málaga achieving its best ever position in the League (seventh) thanks to 'Zamora' Deusto, Monreal, Martínez, Arias, Montero, Migueli, Vilanova, Álvarez and Viberti, among many others.
A friendly, loving person who has been linked to Málaga since his retirement, he will always remain in the memory of the entire Malaguista Family. Farewell, 'Chato'.
