The 25/26 season kicks off in the third week of August

The start date for Spain’s top two football divisions, First and Second Division, has been officially confirmed. Both leagues will begin on the weekend of August 16–17.

Málaga CF will begin their 10th season under their current name in Spain’s Second Division. LALIGA HYPERMOTION 25/26 will start on the weekend of August 16–17 and the regular season will end on the weekend of May 30–31. The promotion playoffs to the First Division are scheduled to take place between June 7 and June 21, 2026.

The match calendar, still pending, will continue to follow the free asymmetric format that has been in place since the 2019/20 season. There will be only one midweek matchday in the Second Division, and the Christmas break will start after the last match of 2025 on Sunday, December 21, with the competition resuming on January 4, 2026.

The Blue and White team’s rivals that remain in the Second Division are: Granada CF, SD Huesca, SD Eibar, Albacete Balompié, Real Sporting de Gijón, Burgos CF, Cádiz CF, Córdoba CF, RC Deportivo de La Coruña, CD Castellón, and Real Zaragoza.

In addition, there will be three more opponents, those who fail to secure promotion to the top tier via the playoffs. These are: Real Oviedo, CD Mirandés, Real Racing Club de Santander, or UD Almería.

And the teams relegated from the First Division: CD Leganés, UD Las Palmas, and Real Valladolid. Joining them are the teams promoted directly from the Primera Federación: Cultural Leonesa and AD Ceuta, along with two more teams that will be promoted from Spain’s third tier via the playoff, still to be determined.
