Kilometre 7: #MálagaRealSporting

Málaga CF defeated Real Sporting by 1-0 at La Rosaleda with an impressive goal from Juande to secure another three points for Sergio Pellicer’s men.

When you win, the kilometre is obviously filled with positives. Check out a few of the highlights:

Juande turns Beckenbauer

A clock. This is how Pellicer in his day defined a central defender who has rightfully earned everything he has been achieving at the Club. His first goal as a professional, making him MCF’s player number 65 to score in the Second Division, was extraordinary. He claimed the ball in his own half, moved upfront and finished off an accurate Caye cross with a header into goal. A move that would have been carried out by, yes, Franz Beckenbauer himself. Kaiser Juande.

Ale Benítez, another dream come true

The absences of Matos and Ismael allowed the Mijas-born player a place in the 11 for the second time this season, following his debut on matchday 1 in Tenerife. On that occasion he played on the left, but yesterday it was Calero who changed sides whilst Ale was in his natural place. He kept up a solid defence during his Blue and White debut at Martiricos. Good work.

Automations and rotations

The seal of the coach on a practically new team is becoming more and more evident. The mechanisms of play include, if necessary, a withdrawal in defence and lethal counters making the most of the speed of the attack. However, it’s also about control in the wide area with the imperial Luis Muñoz and Ramón, who are also highly involved in pressuring the rival without the ball. And with rotations on every line, even in goal, we saw Dani Barrio back in the starting-11 in place of Juan Soriano.

La Rosaleda fortress

Despite not having the loyal support of the Malaguista fans in the stands, La Rosaleda has hosted three league clashes up to now and the stats are quite revealing. Málaga CF have won seven out of nine points, with two victories and a draw, accumulating 270 minutes keeping a clean sheet at home. The day after tomorrow, Mirandés will be heading to Martiricos knowing that they’ll have to do a great deal to beat this Málaga.

Exciting stats

After seven LaLiga SmartBank matches, MCF have won 13 out of a possible 21 points, sitting in fifth place in the standings, tied on points with Fuenlabrada (2nd), Rayo Vallecano (3rd) and Sporting (4th), three points from RCD Espanyol in pole position. In addition, the Blue and Whites are eight points clear of the position marking permanency in the silver division, the first objective of the season for the team.
