Kilometre 5: #MálagaLasPalmas

Another point. Yesterday’s match at La Rosaleda ended in a goalless draw for Málaga CF and Pepe Mel’s UD Las Palmas, a highly competitive rival during the 90 minutes.

There are numerous highlights from the 0-0 draw between MCF and Las Palmas that we look at in our kilometre:

Day of debuts

Josua Mejías became player number 382 to wear the Málaga CF jersey, making his debut at La Rosaleda, along with Jairo, in the starting-11. Pablo Chavarría left the bench to play as a local for the first time at Martiricos. It was also a special day for two homegrown players. Juvenil player, Larrubia debuted with the first team at La Rosaleda, and Julio, who narrowly missed out on a goal just before the final whistle, also enjoyed his first minutes of the season.

Captain Luis Muñoz

On his return home as a Blue and White player, the new number ‘8’ wore the captain’s armband. He occupied the role of pivot in midfield, along with another Malagueño player, Alberto Escassi, who brought his usual dose of quality on the exit of the ball. He still has to gain more pace to become the Luis we all know.

Secure Dani Barrio

Following the match at Vallecas, the goalkeeper needed to secure the goal and maintain a clean sheet. The keeper from Asturias, who faces tough competition from Juan Soriano and the reserve team’s Gonzalo, put on a notable performance in goal. He made some superb saves in which he showed impeccable placement. The third clean sheet in five games this 20/21 season for Dani.

Scoring points is always positive

With a numerical advantage for around 50 minutes of play, the point scored may not seem like a lot. However, in such a tight category, with rivals who make the most of their resources, as we saw yesterday with a UD Las Palmas always involved in the fight, the +1 raises the number of points won at home to 4 out of 6, and 7 out of 15 in total this season. As such, the team is sitting in a comfortable 10th place in the standings.
