Kilometre 26: Málaga-Rayo

The day before yesterday, Málaga CF defeated Rayo Vallecano at La Rosaleda on matchday 26 of LaLiga SmartBank. Goals from Joaquín and Luis Muñoz secured the three points.

There were several highlights from #MálagaRayo for the Blue and Whites. Here we take a look back at the 2-0 victory at Martiricos:

Dream come true for Joaquín

The electric winger from Miraflores was determined to score at the stadium of his beloved team. Three minutes into play, following a corner, Joaquín slammed the ball into the net after it touched a rival player. As he himself said, his heart stopped when he scored his first goal as a Malaguista at La Rosaleda. He celebrated it with a special culinary dedication to his parents. Unforgettable.

Luis ‘box to box’ Muñoz

The second Blue and White goal had a Malagueño accent. In minute 25 of the first half, Ismael made a perfect cross to Luis Muñoz who scored a beautiful goal without letting the ball drop. Stunning. The second goal on the bounce at home for a player who could have scored another if Luca Zidane hadn’t prevented it.

At last a home win!

Football has owed Pellicer’s Málaga a league win for a long time. It was worth the wait. Against a great rival, one of the most talented in the division, it was one of the best matches of the 20/21 season. Effective upfront, great concentration and maintaining intensity during the 90 minutes. A great victory that hopefully marks the beginning of a winning streak at the Blue and White temple.

34 points

The number speaks for itself, after 26 matches so far in the competition. Sitting in 12th place in the standings, MCF are seven points away from the playoff positions marked by Rayo Vallecano. In addition, the lads are +8 above the places just out of the drop zone, where Sabadell and Alcorcón are tied on points (26) in 18th and 19th place respectively. The stats are irrefutable.
