Victory for Málaga CF at Santo Domingo with a heroic goal from Pablo Chavarría in 92’. Pellicer’s men are in a comfortable position in the standings with 31 points.

First league win of 2021

The Blue and Whites achieved their first win of the year in LaLiga SmartBank on Saturday against AD Alcorcón. We say the first league win as the lads also defeated Real Oviedo in the Copa del Rey on Three Kings’ Day, 6th January. The Blue and Whites obtained a draw against Albacete BP (M. 20) and Real Oviedo (M. 21) and didn’t score any points against SD Ponferradina (M. 22), ending January with one win, two draws and one defeat.

An insurmountable wall

Málaga CF remained very strong in defence. They didn’t permit the ‘Alfarero’ outfit to make any clear shots at the target during the game. The locals also showed a solid defence, attempting to separate the Blue and White strikers from their goal area, but Pellicer’s men insisted throughout the second half. In the end, the visitors managed to overcome the opponent’s defensive strategy and win the three points at the last minute.

‘Super’ Pablo

At the moment, the Argentinean striker is the highest Malaguista scorer of the 20-21 season. He has matched Juande in LaLiga SmartBank with four goals, but he also scored in the Copa del Rey against Real Oviedo. His league goals helped Málaga CF win nine points. He opened the scoring against Real Zaragoza (M. 6) and provided Caye with an assist to seal the 1-2 win; scored the winning goal against CD Sabadell (1-2, M. 11) and his goal in the 92nd minute against AD Alcorcón ensured the three points went to the Blue and Whites on Saturday (0-1, M. 23). The latter wasn’t the only deciding goal Pablo Chavarría scored, as he also netted the winner in the second Copa de S.M. el Rey clash with Real Oviedo in minute 118’ in extra time. Pablo Chavarría to the rescue!
