Kilometre 22: Screenplay 'made in' Lugo

From the creator of ‘The Comeback at Anxo Carro’ comes version 2.0 of a film whose script didn’t vary too much from league matchday 1. Lugo opened the scoring and there was subsequent suffering and a comeback for Muñiz’s men.

There are many highlights from Málaga CF’s 13th victory in the current LaLiga 1|2|3 season. Here’s a summary of the 2-1 win at La Rosaleda against CD Lugo:

Victory, direct promotion and leadership

The second consecutive victory, following the 0-2 win against Zaragoza at La Romareda, saw the second round of the league season back in direct promotion positions at the top of the table, pending Granada’s result on Monday. If they don’t win, we are leaders!

Notable debuts

Reserve team player Keidi Bare debuted at La Rosaleda in the starting line-up, as did the experienced David Lombán. The Albanian midfielder did a great job in the wide area, whilst the defender from Asturias had the equaliser at his feet – before half-time – from a set piece. In the final stage of the game Seleznov made his debut, the latest Malaguista signing was very well received in the stands. The Ukrainian is the 348th player to have taken part in an official match with MCF.

‘4’ is the number

Adrián and Harper scored their fourth goals of the current season. The second consecutive goal for the Madrid-born player, and the same for the homegrown striker, with a curious common denominator: every time they score Málaga wins. In addition, ‘Pichichi’ Blanco Leschuk gave a goal assist to a teammate for the fourth time this season. A hard-working and generous number ‘9’.

‘Todos con Julen’

The brave 12.758 fans who headed to Martiricos, defying the cold weather, spurred on the team to another triumph with little Julen very present in the hearts of the Blue and Whites. A giant banner in the Fondo Sur dedicated to him, an ovation for Julen in minute 7’ and special t-shirts in support of the little boy from Totalán were the stand out gestures.

Muñiz is history

The coach from Gijón, on his own merits, is making his own particular statistical history with Málaga CF. An achiever of goals and always faithful to his style, Muñiz is the manager with the most wins at the Club this century. 54 victories (surpassing the 53 of Manuel Pellegrini) have already been accumulated by the ‘míster’ with his unmistakable stamp.
