Kilometre 21, three redeeming points at La Romareda

An away win for Málaga CF against Real Zaragoza by 0-2. With this victory, on LaLiga 1|2|3 matchday 21, Muñiz’s men are in third place in the standings with 39 points, with the home defeat against Reus now forgotten.

These are some of the highlights of #RealZaragozaMálaga which ended with a 0-2 result at La Romareda:

Goals

Ricca and Adrián, the first and second captain respectively, scored the winning goals. The winger put the Malaguistas in front with a header following a corner in the first half. It’s usual to see the Uruguayan seeking out a goal from strategic plays and, on this occasion, he deceived the Zaragoza defence to launch his shot to the far post unmarked. For his part, Adrián sentenced the game in the closing stages. As in Málaga - Nástic, the midfielder increased the lead by taking advantage of a rogue action. He gained possession picking up on a clearance from a great display by Juanpi to go on to show excellent definition with a low shot into the back of the net. With these goals, both have now scored three and are placed as the second ‘pichichis’ on the team, tied with Harper.

An insurmountable Munir

The Malaguista goalkeeper has us accustomed to great performances in his quest to keep a clean sheet. In the last match against Zaragoza he intervened on six occasions to neutralise the rival’s attempts, highlighting his spectacular reflexes and effective positioning.

The table’s tight

Málaga CF are in third place in the standings tied on points with second-place (Albacete, 39 points). They are one point away from leaders, Granada CF, and have three more than Dépor (4th) and four more than Alcorcón (5th).

Third place, even away from home

In such an even competition, points scored away from home are very important. Málaga CF are the only team to have won the three points in an away fixture on LaLiga 1|2|3 matchday 21. With this victory, the Blue and Whites have won four away games, drawn three and lost four. These stats put Muñiz’s men as the third most uncomfortable rival for local teams, after Granada and Albacete, and ahead of Reus and Dépor.

Starting-11 debut

The names of Keidi and Hugo appeared for the first time in the starting line-up. The two homegrown players, who have already debuted in LaLiga 1|2|3, stepped on the pitch from the start at La Romareda. Hugo was substituted at half-time due to discomfort in the back of his right leg. Keidi meanwhile played for 90 minutes.
