Juanmi: “We really need to work hard in San Mamés”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Juan Miguel Jiménez 'Juanmi', held a press conference at the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium following this morning’s training session. The Blue and Whites’ striker analyses the team ahead of Monday’s match at San Mamés.

Juanmi says that Málaga CF will do everything possible to earn the maximum number of points from now until the end of the League season: “We’ve still got a lot of work to do.  There are six games left, which will be like six finals for us, and we want to get as many points as we can.  It’s important that we get to the last match of the season with nothing to worry about.”

The striker believes the team’s winning streak will continue at San Mamés: “We really need to work hard in San Mamés.  It’s a tough ground, but we’re all working really well and team morale is high.  Monday’s match is another final for us, like the six matches that are left.  The rival doesn’t let points escape their home ground easily, so we need to do our best to bring them home.”

Juanmi is in good physical form: “Every player wants to be included in the starting-11, but my focus is on working hard and supporting the team should the coach need me.  If I can score goals, then all the better.  A striker tends to go through waves of scoring, but I’ve always worked hard.  My position has always been that of second striker, but I’ll be ready for whichever position the manager thinks best.  I always try my best out on the pitch, with good movement and pressure on the rival.  I hope the coach continues to have faith in me and I want to return his confidence by performing well in each match.”

Juanmi, who matured as a player during his time in Santander, is focused on the final stretch of the League season: “I’m not looking ahead, Monday’s match is the only important thing right now.  Nothing is set in stone and anything can happen in football.  When the League has ended, then we’ll think ahead to next season.”
