José María Muñoz: “Málaga is sustainable and viable”

Málaga CF’s judicial administrator addressed the media in the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda following the General Shareholders’ Meeting. “Málaga CF is one of the clubs with the highest turnover in LALIGA HYPERMOTION,” he stated.

Sustainable MCF

“I was appointed to provide sustainability and restructure the club. As of today, Málaga CF is viable and ranks in the Top 3 in terms of turnover in the Second Division. That is my job. The club is in good shape, it is sustainable and viable. There is tremendous work being done by the club’s staff, and the club has a positive cash position.”

Squad and salary cap

“We have 25 professional registrations and 4-5 players training regularly with the first team. That makes 29-30 players. Signings? First, there will have to be departures. The sporting department is working on it and, if there is a possibility, we’ll see how to approach it, but there will have to be exits.”

Judicial administration

“I alone have the authority to sign. For example, in matters of financial control. There is no manual for a court-appointed administrator. I have never wanted to be president, it is not my ambition nor do I have any interest in it. Although I understand that people may be tired of me because I have been here for six years.”

“In Málaga we have 14 investigating courts, the same number as 20 years ago. There has been no increase. In addition to other cases (for the judge), there is Málaga.”

Sporting ambitions

“Last year we said survival, and this year it’s survival as soon as possible. We have many players developed through the youth academy, this is our flagship. The support from CVC was fundamental. Málaga must look to its academy, that is the club’s objective. This year, survival as soon as possible and to finish as high as we can, without getting carried away.”

MCF Foundation

“The ciudad deportiva is costly and has to be maintained. All of the Foundation’s accounts are approved and audited. Greater transparency would be impossible.”

General and sporting management

“Kike Pérez has an open-ended contract. In my initial plan, we needed to promote the youth academy, and Kike believed in it because Málaga produces good players. When we went to the market for sporting directors, we reviewed the options and the one we liked most was Loren. Loren has our full confidence, and in February/March we will need to sit down, weigh the pros and cons, and listen to him.”
