José González: “We will never give up on this effort”

The Málaga CF coach appeared in the press room after #MálagaSevillaFC: “We must get up tomorrow and focus on CD Leganés”.

Match analysis

“It’s a blow, a harsh blow. Once again, we’ve seen that the rival wasn’t better than us. Sevilla’s best players were the two centrals. I lost count of the number of times we got the ball into their area. It wasn’t a comfortable match for Sevilla, although none of the chances we had we were able to convert. Myself, I’m never comfortable when the ball flies over my area, yet in this case, the ball sailed over Sevilla’s area on numerous occasions. I don’t know how many times we approached the target, but if we can’t finish, it doesn’t help to generate encouragement to keep trying. That’s what happened for nearly 80 minutes, I don’t think Sevilla were better than us. Málaga didn’t give the image of being at the bottom of the League table. I feel hurt, like my players. We must get up tomorrow and focus on Leganés, and what we owe to the fans for their support today, despite what happened, they didn’t whistle at any time. We will never give up on this effort. Where there’s life, there’s hope. We’ll carry on”.

Hurt

“If we’d had a shot from every chance we created, the team would have changed. If this team wins a game, spirits would be regenerated. But if it’s not one thing it’s another. It’s difficult. Of course, we’re hurt. This run of defeats is upsetting, but tomorrow I’ll be the first one there ready to prepare for the next match”.

CD Leganés

“It’s my fault. We didn’t go far enough to finish. We also need to applaud the Sevilla defence, as the pair of centrals was fantastic. They didn’t give us any option. Most shots were cleared. I cannot reproach my players, they were exhausted at the end of the match, and it’s up to me to lift their spirits for the clash with Leganés. It’s another battle we’ve got coming up that we need to dispute. Right now, we’re all angry, but we need to continue. Not every team that comes here is going to be Atlético de Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla… I think we deserved much more, which is something I keep repeating. We must convey this message to the players, they must carry on”.

Quini

“Sooner or later we all leave, but what everyone wants is to be remembered like Quini. The legacy he leaves, with everyone talking about how good a person he was, is unquestionable”.
