José González: “We were very vulnerable”

The Blue and Whites’ coach held a press conference following #EspanyolMálaga. “I apologise to the fans as they didn’t deserve today’s behaviour”.

Analysis of the defeat

“It’s difficult to make an assessment as I don’t think we got into the game until they scored the third goal. If the team doesn’t show the necessary intensity, which they didn’t, they become very vulnerable. We were very vulnerable and predictable. In the second half we looked more like a football team, but with the same lack of goal as in previous games. I apologise to the fans as they didn’t deserve today’s behaviour”.

Mentality

“Perhaps it’s a result of the situation we’re experiencing, the number of weeks we’ve been relegated… the player’s mentality reduces somewhat. Without the right mentality in professional football you’re lost. I want to understand that we were scattered around the pitch, and if you don’t face a game in the right way you quickly concede three goals”.

Absences in defence

“We had – on the brink of sanction – Diego, Miquel and Rosales. For Sunday we only have two professional defenders. We’re lacking players and will have some difficulty there in the next match. We’ll have to opt for ‘juveniles’ as the reserve team is in the playoffs, it’s a tough situation but we may see ‘juveniles’ in the first team”.
