José González: “We need a victory, and we need it to happen tomorrow”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference in the run-up to #MálagaValencia: “We’re competing well, but we need that bit of good luck to score the three points to help us to believe more”.

Daily work

“I can only say that the team trains very well. The team believes, and it shows in daily training. There’s enthusiasm, a good atmosphere and professionalism. I think the general dynamic is positive and working well. We’re facing a very important game for us, against a major team, with a great coach who knows how to play depending on how the opponent plays. We’re motivated for a match against a big rival. We’re excited and looking forward to it”.

Approach

“We need a victory, and I’m sure that Valencia CF are coming to face the bottom-placed team to win. I believe we need to propose a game that isn’t at all open, which allows us to manage the real options that are better for us to win. We’re not going to alter a great deal of what we’ve been doing, as we’re doing a lot of things well. Along the lines of continuing to grow, I want to see more accuracy. I think it’s crucial we have that bit of good luck that we need to get out of this situation. Accuracy, hard work, concentration and intensity, along with that dose of good fortune”.

A victory

“Many times, when we look at the standings, we talk of the need for two victories. What we need is the first. And we need it to happen tomorrow, regardless of who we’re facing. We need it far more than the rival, which we must show on the field of play. I think that against Atlético de Madrid the team demonstrated they wanted it, believed it, and showed soul, which is fundamental to get out of this position. You have to value, to a certain extent, that after playing against us, Eibar went to San Mamés and drew, and later defeated Sevilla FC. Atlético de Madrid appeared a worse team here than they showed yesterday in Copenhagen. I think we’re competing well, but we need that bit of good luck to score the three points to help us to believe much more and give us some hope. I understand the fans, who have suffered all season. We need to keep the faith until the last minute”.
