Joaquín: "Matches like this reinforce our philosophy as a team”

Joaquín Sánchez, from Málaga Club de Fútbol’s first team, spoke to the media before today’s training session, Monday 19th March, in the Ciudad de Málaga Stadium.

(Draw against Real Madrid) “Gaining a point in an away game, especially in the Bernabeú, is so important, in a place where practically no-one has taken away anything.  It’s left us feeling very positive.  There were times in last night’s match where we felt like the better team.  Without doubt it was a more than fair result, which allowed us to show what we can do in a stadium like that.  As well as Santi Cazorla’s fantastic goal, we felt like we’d come away from the match with a victory, in being able to equalise the way we did”.

“I’m very pleased with how we played yesterday.  I always play the best I can, regardless of the opponent.  Little by little I’m improving, which you can only do by playing these matches, and when the team is doing well, you feel much more at ease”.

“We never gave up trying to gain possession of the ball in our game play, reacting well to Real Madrid’s powerful attacking display.  We know we’re improving, and we now feel more comfortable and gaining confidence in matches like the one last night, which motivates us and reinforces our philosophy as a team”.

(Upcoming League match) “The match against Rayo is equally as important.  They’re a team with some very experienced players who know how to play good football.  We can’t lose any points in home games, and we need to treat every match as if it’s a final”.

(Team) “Week by week we see the team is improving.  We know what we want to achieve, but always keep our feet on the ground.  There are a lot of points left to play for and we need to keep moving forward”.
