Javi Gracia: “We’ll try our best to prolong our winning streak”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference in the Juan Cortés room at La Rosaleda, ahead of tomorrow’s League encounter with UD Almería, as “the team fights for three vital points.”

Málaga CF kicks off 2015 with a visit from UD Almería: “This rival has recently had a change of manager, made it through to the next stage of the Copa del Rey and won an away game in Vigo.  They’ve achieved three victories, all in away matches, so we need to take into account the difficulty of tomorrow’s game.  UD Almería have a good defensive display and are dangerous in transitions due to the speed of the players.”

The match against UD Almería is the first in what will be a highly demanding month: “We’ve got a large concentration of games coming up, and are taking part in two competitions.  Over the next few weeks, if we don’t play well in the Cup, we’re only in the League competition, and in the League we’ve got some exciting matches on the way to end the first round where we could gain a sufficient number of points to enable us to strive for other objectives and enjoy the second half of the season as much as possible.”

There are still some players out of action due to injury: “The team’s situation is still rather delicate with regards to injuries, little rotation of time players spend on the pitch, players in certain positions without a specific substitute…this is where the difficulty lies.”  However the manager remains optimistic: “Even though some players are out of action, we will still compete to the max.  We’ve seen a great commitment from every member of the team, and whoever plays, we’re putting on a wonderful performance.”

With Camacho out due to injury discomfort, on a positive note, Juanmi returns to the line-up: “He has overcome the injury to his arm, which caused him to stop playing and take precautions in training.  We needed to see how the injury developed and ensure the muscle tone wasn’t lost, as he’s a player who can be immediately incorporated into the line-up.”
