Javi Gracia: “We were more effective in set pieces”
The ‘Malaguista’ coach spoke to the media at the Power8 Stadium: “It wasn’t our best game.” Gracia adds: “It took us a while to settle into the match, but we were capable of equalising on two occasions.”
Focusing on the positives, the coach continues: “We were more effective in set pieces.” RCD Espanyol is a rival “who was determined to win and worked hard tonight.”
Gracia explains the first two changes: “We had possession but weren’t capable of overcoming the two four-player lines of defence. I therefore thought we’d have more options with Amrabat on the wing and Juanmi as centre forward. Duda always passes well and is strong at taking free kicks.”
Málaga CF is hosting FC Barcelona next Wednesday at La Rosaleda, a match that the Navarran-born manager is not worried about as “we’re prepared to compete in any game, which we’ve shown.”
