Iturra: “We need to fight because we owe this shield”
The Blue and Whites’ midfielder held a press conference this Friday to the sporting media. “I hope the next match will be a turning point to keep the dream alive”.
Current sporting situation
“The situation we’re in, losing week after week, is tough. We’re trying to move forward, get up and train in the best way we can. Things aren’t turning out how we hoped or planned, but while it’s still mathematically possible, we’ll keep fighting until the end. This is how it has to be and how we must think. We’re defending a jersey and a shield, there are many feelings involved, not only what surrounds the football pitch, but many other situations, and we have to fight until the end”.
Mathematical options
“I wish we could take everything we do in the week to each match. At times I think we do, but these small mistakes are costing us dearly. In the end, we’re losing games because of minor details. Maybe there are matches in which the rival is superior but hasn’t generated goal opportunities, and vice versa. It’s important that we keep going and stay strong as long as the numbers allow us to keep the hope alive”.
First round against Celta
“As Recio said, we won that match here at La Rosaleda, it was like a turning point for us. Hopefully that will be the case again, as we’ve been waiting a long time for this, yet unfortunately due to certain circumstances, we haven’t been able to earn points. I hope the next match will be a turning point to keep the dream alive”.
Fight until the end
“On a personal level, I stopped watching other games and looking at the standings a while ago. It depends more on us, trying to win a match, which is what will boost morale and give us confidence for the upcoming fixtures. That’s what we need to focus on, not working out the numbers, as that’s worse mentally when you see the rivals scoring points and it’s such a struggle for us to do the same. We need to win three points as soon as possible to keep this dream alive. Whilst there are still options, and the maths says so, we need to keep fighting, as we owe this historic Club and this shield”.
