Important victory in Lezama (1-2)

Málaga CF defeated SD Amorebieta (1-2) in a very hard-fought match. Brandon (31’), from the penalty spot, and Juande, in a well-rehearsed action, scored the Malaguista goals.

The Blue and Whites faced the Blues on matchday 30 of LaLiga SmartBank. Incessant rain beforehand reinforced how tough play would be on the pitch.

The locals kicked off with a strong push. The Blues sought to move the match into the Malaguista area with a vertical game based on long shots, but the Blue and White defence skilfully repelled the attempts. As time went on, Natxo González's men took control of the ball and moved with precision.

In 27’, Brandon was brought down inside the area. The referee, who awarded a penalty, checked his decision with VAR. His ruling was confirmed and, three minutes later, Brandon converted from the 11-metre mark with a powerful, tight shot (0-1, minute 30).

The locals went in search of an equaliser, but again the Malaguista defence stayed solid, and the lads kept a clean sheet whilst trying to maintain possession in the wide area. At half-time the scoreboard still showed 0-1.

In the second half the visitors focused on increasing their lead, which they did after six minutes. Vadillo launched a cross from the right – following a set piece – that was finished by Juande (0-2, minute 51).

The goal allowed the Blue and Whites to control the match with the ball in their possession. The home side kept up attempts to get a goal on several occasions, but the Malaguista defence impeded all their options.

When the result appeared definitive, in 89’ Orozco narrowed the gap. However, despite the lengthy stoppage time, the result stayed the same. Victory for Málaga CF in Lezama (1-2) to reach 36 points, currently in 16th place, 10 points away from the drop zone.

Next Saturday 12th, the Blue and Whites will return to La Rosaleda to face SD Ponferradina (21:00) on LaLiga SmartBank matchday 31.
