Hard work without reward against a great Granada (3-1)

The Blue and Whites suffered a dignified defeat in the Ciudad de Granada Cup. Abram, Luis Milla and Puertas scored for the locals whilst homegrown player Alberto Quintana netted the Blue and White goal.

Málaga CF and Granada CF met on a warm afternoon this 6th August for the Ciudad de Granada Cup. Around 2,000 fans watched the match at the Nuevo Los Cármenes, which doesn’t seem a lot taken out of context, but considering the circumstances, is a very hopeful number.

The match soon became animated. Abram put the locals in front after 4 minutes (1-0). The early goal didn’t condition the match and the Blue and Whites soon equalised. Homegrown player Quintana was ready in the area to make the most of a clearance to score the 1-1 in minute 6.

There was a lot of back and forth for both sides, with the Malaguistas trying to frequent the area and contain the rivals’ attempts. However, the home side scored again in minute 20. Luis Milla netted a superb goal from in front of the target, which Gonzalo could do little to prevent (2-1).

José Alberto’s men attempted to once again go level on the scoreboard, making numerous approaches but luck wasn’t on their side. At half-time the locals maintained their 2-1 lead.

The tone of play remained very similar in the second half. Balanced in the wide area and with both sides generating opportunities. Puertas increased the Red and Whites’ lead in minute 60 with good definition in a one-on-one with the Blue and White keeper (3-1).

As time went on the players’ legs bore the brunt, yet despite the heat and the kilometres accumulated, they maintained the search for a goal until the end. However, despite the great effort, the final result was a 3-1 victory for the locals.
