Hard defeat at El Plantío (3-0)

Málaga CF lost out to Burgos CF (3-0) on matchday 18 of LaLiga SmartBank. Pablo Valcarce (17’ and 67’) and Juanma García (62’) scored the goals.

Málaga CF and Burgos CF locked horns at El Plantío on this cold, snowy afternoon at the end of November. There’s no precedent for this match, as the last time a Málaga team visited this stadium was with CD Málaga over 30 years ago.

In terms of gameplay, there was a lot of back and forth for both sides, although the visitors frequented the rival area with a greater level of danger. Antoñín tried his luck with a powerful shot from the side the area, but his attempt was blocked by the local keeper. With ball possession balanced, Burgos CF managed to open the scoring in 17’, the work of Pablo Valcarce (1-0).

Following the goal, the Blue and Whites went all out in search of an equaliser. Víctor Gómez finished a good collective display in front of the area with his left foot, missing the goal by mere centimetres.

After several minutes, Escassi stunned the crowd at El Plantío with an attempt from the heart of the area following a corner, but the ball came up against a rival defender. At half-time, the scoreboard remained at 1-0.

At the start of the second half, both teams tried to impose the pace of play. Malaguista keeper, Dani Martín, managed to dismantle a dangerous one-on-one in minute 50 of play. Local player Ernesto was able to escape the Blue and White defence to stand in front of the keeper, who correctly guessed the striker’s intention.

Eleven minutes later, taking advantage of an unfortunate move by the MCF defence, Burgos increased their lead. Juanma scored in 61’ (2-0).

After this blow, José Alberto’s men stepped up their efforts to get a goal, coming very close. Barely four minutes after the locals’ second goal, the visitors again narrowly missed out on glory. Roberto was, literally, millimetres away. The striker finished a clearance by the goalkeeper, but the ball ended up hitting the side of the net.

Burgos CF then expanded their lead. Following a superb save from Dani Martín, the ball hit the post, leaving Pablo Valcarce free to score the 3-0 (67’).

There were no further clear opportunities for the remainder of play. As it stands now, with this defeat, Málaga CF have 26 points, one away from the playoff positions. The team’s Copa del Rey journey will get underway on Thursday against Peña Sport FC, and then on Sunday, football will return to La Rosaleda with the match against SD Amorebieta.
