Guede’s first victory, in Butarque (0-3)

Málaga CF secured their third away win of the season against CD Leganés today in a hard-fought match. The first two Blue and White goals came from the penalty spot, the work of Vadillo and Antoñín. Sekou scored the third.

Málaga CF headed to the Municipal de Butarque on matchday 36 of LaLiga SmartBank, the first away game for the Malaguistas since the arrival of Pablo Guede as Blue and White coach.

The starting line-up was made up of Dani Martín in goal; a line of defence consisting of Víctor Gómez, Peybernes, Escassi and Javi Jiménez; Genaro and Ramón in midfield with Jozabed and Febas on the inside; and Vadillo and Antoñín on the attack.

During the first half, both teams attempted to impose their gameplay, but possession alternated between them. The match developed in midfield, but a header from Peybernes and another from Bautista indicated the first approaches. The standout attacking display was from Antoñín in minute 7. The striker launched a dangerous shot that was deflected by Dani Jiménez to a corner.

Málaga came out fighting in the second half. Jozabed didn’t manage to connect with a superb assist from Víctor Gómez from the right, but the team piled the pressure on from the outset. A magnificent triangulation by the team left Antoñín in the area in a good position to strike. The Malaguista number 15, celebrating his birthday today, cut off Omeruo and was brought down. The penalty was converted by Vadillo to put the visitors 0-1 up in the 57th minute.

Leganés reacted quickly. It was Arnaiz who caused trouble for Dani Martín with a promising header. The Malaguista keeper, on top form, made a stunning save to ensure Guede’s team held their lead.

A minute later, in 60’, Jozabed fell near the local area after a dispute with Omeruo. The referee signalled the foul was outside the area, but after a VAR check a penalty was given. On this occasion, Vadillo gave the ball to Antoñín who made it 0-2 in 63’.

Following a hectic start, Guede brought on Paulino and Brandon in place of Ramón and Vadillo. Then, in 73’, Antoñín made way for Sekou Gassama. The Senegalese forward was the one who sealed the lads’ win following an assist from Paulino (0-3, 85’).

The Malaguistas claimed three hard-fought points against a difficult LaLiga SmartBank rival. The Blue and Whites now have 41 points, seven away from the drop zone, the first victory in Pablo Adrián Guede’s second match as coach.

The lads will be in action next Saturday 23rd April at 18:30 at La Rosaleda against SD Eibar.
