Gonzalo to remain with the Club until 2023

The homegrown goalkeeper has extended his contract for another two seasons and will continue to develop his skills within the Blue and White discipline.

The number 1 in The Academy will continue to defend the Malaguista goal until the end of the 22/23 season. Gonzalo Alejandro Crettaz, a 20-year-old Spanish-Argentinean born in Buenos Aires on 28th February 2000, has been with Málaga CF for four years.

A solid keeper with good reflexes, he arrived in the 2017/18 season at ‘juvenil’ age from Levante UD, spending his first season on loan at CD San Félix, reaching the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey of the category. In 2018/19, he played 10 games with the Juvenil División de Honor, and 12 with Atlético Malagueño in the 19/20 campaign, making his first team debut on 17th November 2019 against AD Alcorcón at Santo Domingo on matchday 16 of LaLiga SmartBank. At such a young age, he played three matches with the first team, two in the league competition and one in the Copa del Rey.

So far this season, he alternates training sessions and squad lists with the first team with nine matches he’s played up to now with Atlético Malagueño.

Gonzalo landed in Málaga as a young lad, and continues to learn from his trainers and his teammates, absorbing everything they tell him. With this renewal, the Club confirms its commitment to the future, rewarding loyalty and the daily hard work of the players from the MCF Academy.

The best of luck on your Malaguista journey, Gonzalo.

Renewal

“I’m so pleased and grateful to the Club for the confidence shown in me. I will return it with hard work and helping the team as much as possible. This is my second senior year, and last season, which was my first, I was lucky enough to spend practically the whole year with the first team. I played with the reserves and was called up to the first team and fortunate enough to play three matches. This is a long road and it gives you peace of mind to have the opportunity to continue in a Club where they are committed to the homegrown players”.

Importance of The Academy

“It’s a difficult situation, which benefits the reserve team players. We need to train hard to be ready for when the coach needs us, we must be at our best. I always work as hard as I can, both with the first team and Malagueño. I play as well as I can with the reserve team so when they need me at the top, I’ll be ready to help. My objective is clear: reach the first team, be a professional and accumulate as many games as I can with the first team. I played away from home last season. I would love to play in front of a capacity crowd at La Rosaleda. I knew the coach last season, he congratulated me and told me to keep working hard”.
