Goalless draw at La Rosaleda (0-0)

All square for Málaga CF and Real Oviedo at La Rosaleda Stadium on matchday 39 of LaLiga SmartBank. Neither the Malaguistas nor the Asturianos could get a goal, and they share the points.

There was a gala atmosphere in the Martiricos stands to support the team, which featured five new faces in the starting-11 compared to last week’s game in Las Palmas. Three of them were in defence, with Isma Casas, Escassi and Víctor Olmo making his debut accompanying captain Lombán. Febas and Sekou completed the new additions this week.

Pablo Guede’s lads got off to an energetic start, generating several arrivals and corners, taken by Álvaro Vadillo. Oviedo, meanwhile, waited in their half for a rapid transition.

Into the first third of play, Jozabed left the pitch due to injury, substituted by Ramón in 31’. Four minutes later, a clearance by Escassi created a promising chance with a Vadillo shot that was saved by Femenías.

In the final stages of the first half, the pace of the game slowed down somewhat, although MCF didn’t stop looking for an option to reach the rival goal. At half-time the scoreboard remained at 0-0.

Subsequently, in the 51st minute, former Malaguista Borja Bastón appeared with a shot that went wide of the left post. Little by little, Málaga regained their intensity and initial push, although they lacked punch in the area. The fans didn’t stop cheering on the team throughout play.

Oviedo, in 69’, could have opened the scoring via Luismi, who shot from the edge of the box very close to the right post. Sangalli, with a header in minute 71, had another good chance. Ziganda’s men stepped up as the second half progressed. Aware of this, Guede refreshed the attack by bringing on Chavarría and Kevin in place of Sekou and Vadillo. The Argentinean number 12, as soon as he joined play, headed a cross from Genaro in the 75th minute.

Paulino and Roberto, for Febas and Brandon, came on in 87’ just before the full-time whistle. The scoreboard didn’t change, and Málaga CF claim another point to total 42 (+2 above 19th place) with three matches to go in LaLiga SmartBank 21/22.
