Belarusian-born Egor Filipenko spoke to MCFTV to analyse Málaga’s current situation and his gradual integration into the Blue and Whites.
Adaptation process
“I feel great. Having had the chance to play, I feel more a part of the team and the overall mood is much better. When I first arrived here it was difficult as I didn’t understand the language. However, I’m much better now, I understand more, although I still struggle to speak Spanish. I now comprehend the coach’s instructions, and I can also ask him questions if I need to.”
Hard work and experience
“It’s great when people speak well of you, but I understand that I need to be tougher in training sessions, as I’ve entered a very strong championship in Europe. I’ve had the experience of playing many matches with BATE Borisov, whereas here I’ve only played a match and a half. If I get to play 10 games, then we’ll talk more about my performance.”
Team
“We didn’t get off to a good start, but if we analyse the matches you can see that we did play well, but luck wasn’t on our side. The only thing I can say is that we need to win whatever happens (against Rayo) and the coach will show us how.”
Playing for Belarus
“When I first got here it attracted a lot of attention in my country. It then calmed down a bit, but now that I’ve played two matches, the people remember me. For example, when messages have appeared on social media in Belarus when I was going to play, people were excited to see me in action. Playing for your country is a great honour for any player.”
