Fernando Hierro receives the 'Marca Leyenda'

General Manager of Málaga Club de Fútbol, Fernando Ruiz Hierro, has received the prestigious ‘Marca Leyenda’ award from the daily Madrid newspaper.

Hierro received the ‘Marca Leyenda’ during the XXIII Foro Marca/Ballesteros, held at the Colegio Unamuno de Málaga.

He joins a long list of sports stars who’ve been given this sought after award by Marca, which began in 1997, when American basketball star Michael Jordan won the first award, considered by many as the greatest sportsman in history.  Of the four football ‘greats’, Pele (1997), Cruyff, Maradona and Di Stéfano (1999), giants in their sports, Miguel Induráin, Rafa Nadal, Pau Gasol or Fernando Alonso, amongst many others, Hierro joins other national footballers honoured for their career, such as Paco Gento, Andrés Iniesta and his great friend Raúl González.

His outstanding career with Real Madrid, playing for Spain, where as Sports Director of the RFEF, took part in European Championships as well as the World Cup, sees Hierro, the best Málaga footballer in history along with Juan Gómez ‘Juanito’, now the ‘Marca Leyenda’.
