Goalkeeper Dani Barrio is joining the ranks of Málaga CF, arriving on a free transfer from CD Numancia with a contract for the 21/22 season.
After passing the relevant medical, as well as the PCR and serology tests within the COVID-19 protocol, Dani signed his contract in the Club’s offices accompanied by sports director Manolo Gaspar.
Beginnings in Asturias
Daniel Barrio Álvarez (Gijón, 1987), a goalkeeper of 1,90 metres in height, started out in the youth ranks of Real Sporting de Gijón. When he left Sporting, he joined Asturian outfits Ribadesella CF (09/10) and Club Marino de Luanco (10/11). In Segunda B he played two seasons with Real Oviedo’s reserve team (2011-13), subsequently ending his time in Asturias.
Leganés, Melilla and Numancia
In the 13/14 campaign he signed to CD Leganés and achieved promotion to the Second Division, playing 31 League games and another three Cup clashes. Following another year with the ‘Pepinero’ team, he started a long spell with UD Melilla. Between 2015 and 2019 he accumulated 141 matches in the bronze division, four promotion playoffs and five Cope del Rey games, all in the starting-11, with the North African club. His good performance sparked the attention of CD Numancia, where he was indisputable last season, playing all 42 matches in LaLiga SmartBank 19/20 in full.
