Erik Morán, balance and display for midfield

Málaga CF has incorporated Erik Morán until the end of the 2018/19 season. The midfielder arrives on loan from AEK Athens, current champions of the Greek Superleague.

The new Blue and Whites’ player, who arrived in Málaga last Saturday and passed the relevant medical examination, will be presented tomorrow, Wednesday at 13:00 at the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda.

Training at Athletic Club

Born in Portugalete (Bilbao) on 25th May 1991, Erik Morán Arribas has significant footballing experience for a 27-year-old. The tall, slim midfielder started out with Lezama (2004-09), after playing for a year with CD Basconia, later returning to the Athletic Club de Bilbao discipline. Between the 09/10 and 12/13 campaigns he belonged to the Red and Whites’ reserve team, debuting with the first team in the First Division against Real Madrid at San Mamés (14/04/2013). During this time, he became an international with Spain’s youth teams until the Under-19s. He remained with Bilbao until midway through the 2014/15 season.

Leganés and Zaragoza

Morán was loaned out by Athletic to CD Leganés (14/15) and Real Zaragoza (15/16), competing in the current Liga 1|2|3 for three seasons. In 2016/17, he signed a permanent deal with the club from Aragón. In total, he played 67 matches (56 in the starting-11 and 46 complete games). At the start of 2017 he returned to Leganés, in the top flight of Spanish football, helping the ‘Pepinero’ side to achieve permanency in the elite, taking part in 12 league games in the second round. The year before he was with the Madrid-based outfit until midway through the season.

Experience in Greece

During his first departure outside the country – last winter - Erik Morán won the Greek Superleague, as well as the runner-up title in the Cup competition, at the hands of Spanish coach, Manolo Jiménez. It was the 2017/18 season, with Morán accumulating 7 league games and 2 cup clashes with the Greek side. So far this 18/19 season, he’s played another 4 league games, 4 cup games and 2 UEFA Champions League matches, against the all-powerful Benfica and Bayern Münich.
