Málaga CF progressing through the pre-season (0-1)

The Blue and Whites defeated Algeciras CF at the Nuevo Mirador thanks to a goal from Dioni in the first half (0-1). The team remains unbeaten in their pre-season fixtures.

The Malaguista squad arrived at the Nuevo Mirador to play their second friendly of the week. This time around it was against Algeciras CF, a rival that will be part of the same Primera Federación group.

Pellicer selected the following starting-11: A. Herrero; Gabilondo, Juande, Einar, Victor; Genaro, Sangalli, Juanpe; D. Larrubia, Dioni and Kevin Medina.

The Blue and Whites got off to a good start, with a powerful shot from distance by Larrubia that the local goalkeeper cleared with his fists (3'). The locals reacted quickly and enjoyed a few minutes of dominance. In the 5th minute Juande sent a ball into the goal for a corner kick following good definition by Javi Cueto. In that same corner, Alfonso had to perform a great reflex action to stop a local attempt.

Málaga responded by opening the scoring. Kevin found Juanpe in midfield and the Jerez-born player, after seeing Dioni unmarked behind the central defenders, gave him a magnificent pass. The Malagueño striker controlled the ball and defined with his right leg before Lucho came out (0-1, 11').

Pellicer's team felt comfortable on the pitch at Nuevo Mirador and had the option of widening the gap. In the final minutes of the first half, after a good combination between Dioni and Larrubia, Gabilondo reached the area and served a ball to Kevin, who came from behind, but his shot was blocked by the local defence.

At half-time the Malaguistas maintained their advantage and at the start of the second half, Pellicer made four changes. Roberto, Juan Hernández, Dani Lorenzo and Murillo replaced Larrubia, Víctor, Dioni and Sangalli.

It didn't take long for the Malaguistas to generate another great opportunity. In the 47th minute, Gabilondo returned to the attacking zone and made a great cross, which connected with Dani Lorenzo. The midfielder's shot collided with the post and Juan Hernández made the most of the rebound to score. However, due to the forward position of the Lorca winger, the goal was annulled and didn’t affect the scoreboard.

Despite the strong Malaguista game, Algeciras CF also had opportunities to go level. In the 65th minute, Iván finished a good lateral cross, yet his shot went wide. Furthermore, in minute 72, Javi Cueto once again enjoyed a one-on-one with Alfonso Herrero, but the Malaguista goalkeeper successfully saved the attempt by the local number '9'.

Loren, Rafa, Bilal and Moussa came on throughout the second half to provide fresh legs. Despite the intensity of both teams, the match ended 0-1 on the scoreboard.

Málaga CF remains undefeated within the summer preparation and faces the last week of pre-season with two more commitments. Next Wednesday, Málaga CF will visit El Maulí to face Antequera CF and UD Melilla.
