El Hamdaoui: “I want to score goals and help the team as much as I can in upcoming games”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Mounir El Hamdaoui held a press conference after this morning’s training session, to talk about his personal situation and the team’s forthcoming matches.

‘Malaguista’ striker, El Hamadoui, who has now recovered from injury, hopes to help the team as much as possible for the remainder of the season: “I’m feeling much better, match-fit and happy.  We’ve got three very important games coming up, which if we win, will see us move a lot further up the League table.  We’ll be doing all we can to return to winning ways from now on.”

The Dutch-born, Moroccan international, is confident the Blue and Whites’ will end the season on a positive note, following his absence through injury for several weeks: “It hasn’t been the season I’d hoped for so far, as I wanted to play as much football as I could.  I was out for two months due to an unfortunate injury, but now I’m excited to be back and looking forward to three very important games for us and the Club coming up.  I never thought about leaving.  I’m happy here and it was never part of my plan to go anywhere else.  It’s hard trying to lose weight when you’re not in training every day, but I’m feeling much better now and I hope to support the team as much as I can.  I’ve spoken to the coach about my injury; I want to return to my target weight and get it under control, but it's not something I’m too worried about.”

Mounir, who was part of the starting-11 last Saturday, hopes to help the team by getting some goals: “I really want to score.  That’s what I’m here for, to score goals and assist my teammates to score.  I’m happy to do whatever the coach tells me to do, and what’s best for the team.  I hope I can get a goal soon.  I know I’m not at my 100 per cent best as yet, which is normal when you’ve been out of action for a while.  However that’s not really a problem, the most important thing is not to get injured again.”

El Hamdaoui has a few words of praise for his compatriot, Amrabat: “I’ve known him for quite some time, he’s a great friend of mine.  He’s a fantastic player and he’ll help the team a great deal.”

After discussing the match against Real Sociedad, the Blue and Whites’ striker adds: “The next three matches will be like three finals for us.  We need to maintain a strong sense of unity, work hard and communicate more with each other.  They are three crucial games for the team, and if we can achieve positive results, we’ll move further up the League table.”
