Edna saves a valuable point in Valencia (1-1)

All square for Málaga Femenino yesterday against Valencia CF ‘B’, away from home, on matchday 6 of Group Sur D in the fight to remain in Reto Iberdrola. Edna scored for the Malaguistas.

Javi Ramos, during his second match as coach, again selected a 1-3-5-2 formation. Andrea Romero was in goal; Sevilla-born Candela and María Cortés, together with homegrown player Yoli Peche were in central defence, Ale and captain Clo on the wings; Lorena and Buceta on the pivot, with María Ruiz as playmaker; and Edna and Claudia upfront.

MCFF dominated at the start of the first half in Valencia, although a penalty awarded in favour of the locals was converted by María Ortiz (1-0, 14’). Nevertheless, Málaga didn’t waste any time and soon went level thanks to a goal from Edna following a great individual display (1-1, 21’).

The balance of power continued to tilt both ways, there were opportunities generated on the wings and any team could have won. The goalkeepers won the game over the strikers. María Ruiz, Claudia, Buce and Futu, the latter having recently joined the game, all could have scored the second Blue and White goal. Andrea also stopped a couple of chances by Valencia in their tracks. The match ended with good feelings and the first point for Javi Ramos heading up the team, to total 18 points.

With four games remaining until the end of the competition, MCFF are three points away from safety. Next week, in Cártama, a crucial duel is coming up against Joventut Almassora, who have two more points (plus one more match played) than Málaga in the standings.
