Defeat in Barcelona, focus now on home game against Sporting de Huelva

The Blue and Whites couldn’t contain the attacking power of Barcelona, who asserted their superiority with a big win at their home ground.

Defeat for Málaga CF at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, with FC Barcelona securing a 6-0 win. Despite the result, Antonio Contreras’ girls showed great strength in the first half, but in the second half the goal chances waned due to fatigue.

The match followed the tone of a dominant Barcelona and a Málaga awaiting the rival, seeking to make an incisive move. With the team well-positioned, the first 20 minutes were marked by great equality. With Mascaró as the most advanced player, the Blue and Whites’ defence sought her speed every time they recovered the ball. In 25’, Mariona put the home side in front following a jumbled play inside the area.

The first half ended with a minimal difference on the scoreboard, and Antonio Contreras’ girls conveying a good image on the pitch. In the second half, FC Barcelona put more emphasis on the search for goal, and did so in 52’, the work of Alexia. It was a harsh blow for the visitors who, just two minutes later, saw Duggan make the most of a rebound inside the area to make things even more difficult.

Despite everything, the Blue and Whites still stood up to one of the most on form teams in Europe. However, in the final 15 minutes fatigue set in and led to gaps in the Malaguista defence. Torrejón and Andressa Alves in 74’ and 75’ scored the fourth and fifth goals respectively. Then in 89’, the Brazilian scored again.

This 6-0 defeat hasn’t moved Málaga CF Femenino away from its objective; claiming victory against Sporting de Huelva at the Federación next Sunday from 12:00.
