We all enjoyed the three-team final of the Copa Andalucía in Puente Genil, where the ‘Malaguista’ players took part alongside Real Betis and Sporting Huelva.
Following La Rambla’s exit from the competition in the semi-finals, the Andalucían Football Federation decided the final of the women’s cup should be played out in a triangular formation. Therefore the three remaining teams from the semi-finals were all automatically finalists.
The ‘Manuel Policarpo’ in Puente Genil was the scene of the final. Atlético Málaga opened the proceedings against Real Betis at 11 a.m. The Sevilla-based rival clinched victory thanks to a goal from Beita in minute 36’. Following the final whistle there was a penalty shoot-out, which is normal in a triangular competition in the case of a triple draw. On this occasion, the ‘Malaguistas’ won by 4-2, after two great saves from goalkeeper, Chelsea.
In the second match, Atlético Málaga lost to First Division side and reigning Copa Andalucía and Copa de la Reina champions, Sporting Huelva by 2-0. The worst part of the game was ‘Malaguista’ player, Encarni’s knee injury.
Atlético Málaga finished in third place in this edition of the Copa de Andalucía, and in the words of Club adviser, Abdullah Ben Barek: “This is a triumph, they faced other superior teams and this is how you gain experience.”
