Málaga CF and CD Tenerife locked horns on LaLiga SmartBank matchday 6 at the iconic Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
The match was pretty even in the initial stages. The visitors showed their determination to gain possession, but the locals, well-positioned on the pitch, didn’t permit any clear chances. Tenerife opened the scoring with a goal from Enric Gallego, going 1-0 up in the 17th minute.
The Blue and Whites continued approaching the rival area, but the expeditious Tenerife defence didn’t make it easy. With half-time looming, the Blue and Whites finally got their reward. Álex Gallar executed a powerful volley against a defender to surpass goalkeeper Juan Soriano (42'). The first half came to an end all square (1-1) on the scoreboard.
In the second half, the Blue and Whites - wearing pink on this occasion - strenuously sought to take the lead, but the local defence continued to repel the attempts with solvency. In the 60th minute, the referee sent off Malaguista, Unai Bustinza with a double yellow card, leaving MCF with 10 men.
Guede subsequently introduced four changes: Juande, Genaro, Loren and Chavarría in place of Gallar, Fran Sol, Fran Villalba and Rubén Castro. In 74’, a penalty was awarded to the locals for an alleged foul by Juanfran, who anticipated the rival attacker. However, surprisingly, neither the referee nor the VAR considered it that way. Enric Gallego was unforgiving from the 11-metre mark (2-1, 76 '). Shortly afterwards, Teto sealed the victory for the home side (3-1, 85').
The fifth defeat out of six games in LaLiga SmartBank for Málaga CF, who remain with three points in the standings.
