The Club expresses deepest sympathies following the death of José Santiago Baeza ‘Ficha’, who was a CD Málaga striker between 1964 and 1968. Rest in Peace.
Born in Linares (Jaén), on 15th May 1939, Ficha began his professional career with Real Jaén, debuting in the Second Division in the 1958/59 season. His impressive goal-scoring record with the club saw him sign to Valencia CF before the end of that season, and making his First Division debut. In 1959/60, he was competing with Valencia’s reserve team, CD Mestalla, to return to Valencia in 1960, where he remained until 1964, winning two Copa de Ferias with the Valencian side.
At the beginning of 1964/65 he signed to CD Málaga, then in the Second Division, with his first match as a Malaguista, Melilla CF 1-0 CD Málaga, held on 1st November 1964. The 1964/65 season concluded with him playing 11 League and two Cup games, achieving promotion to the First Division. The following season, now in the elite, he took part in a total of 10 League matches and one Cup match, the legendary draw against Real Madrid, held at Mestalla stadium.
Having returned to the Second Division in 1966/67, Ficha scored his first goal as a Malaguista in the Blue and Whites’ away victory, 0-2, against Atlético de Ceuta. This season the Martiricos team was again promoted to the First Division. His last season as a CD Málaga player was more testimonial, being present in four League games, scoring one goal, at home against Real Zaragoza.
In 1968 he left the Malaguista Club after competing in 45 official matches and scoring two goals, to move to Jerez Industrial, where the Jaén-born left winger ended his footballing career.
