Málaga CF mourns the death of Peribaldo, a CD Málaga player in the 81/82 season, whose goals were key to First Division promotion.
Peribaldo Santos da Silva Filho was born in Bahía, Brazil on 16th April 1952. A powerful striker who played a historic campaign at Club Deportivo Málaga. Coming from Portuguese club Os Belenenses, he played 16 games in the silver division with Málaga in the 81/82 season.
With Antonio Benítez at the helm, and several homegrown players, Peribaldo stood out in the second half of the season with a CD Málaga that rose to the elite, finishing 3rd in the standings, behind RC Celta and UD Salamanca.
Out of the 16 matches he played in the Second Division, Peribaldo was in the starting line-up in 15 of them, scoring eight goals. His big day as a Blue and White player was on 14th March 1982 when he scored a hattrick at La Rosaleda against RC Deportivo de la Coruña in a big 8-0 win for the Malaguistas.
Peribaldo left the Martiricos entity at the end of that season, returning to Portugal to play for Marítimo.
