Condolences following the death of Bustillo

Málaga Club de Fútbol wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Miguel Ángel Bustillo, the former Blue and Whites’ player who passed away at 69 years of age. Rest in peace.

Miguel Ángel Bustillo Lafoz was born in Zaragoza on 9th September 1946. Formed in Real Zaragoza’s youth ranks, he was loaned out to UD Mahón, and later returned to Zaragoza’s reserve team (Deportivo Aragón), making the jump to the first team in 1966.  Following three seasons with the Aragón team, he signed to FC Barcelona in 1969, being then one of the most promising strikers in national football.

An injury during his debut with Barcelona and a subsequent infection, meant he only played three league games with the team.  In 1972 he signed to CD Málaga, who were at the time enjoying their best season in the Spanish footballing elite.  His debut as a Malaguista was in the CD Málaga 1-0 Athletic Club match, held on 02/09/1972.

From then on, he was part of the team line-ups both upfront and in midfield, accompanying players including Álvarez, Migueli, Orozco and Requejo.  In the 1975/76 season, he achieved his best goal-scoring record, with 13 goals, helping CD Málaga to return to the First Division.  1976/77 was his final season with the Blue and Whites, with his last appearance being a Copa del Rey match against Linares (23/12/1976).  In 1977 he left CD Málaga and retired form professional football.

Bustillo’s numbers in the league competition with CD Málaga were 126 matches and 26 goals.  He was also an international with Spain on 5 occasions.
