Baptista: “We wanted to win, but it’s important not to lose”

Málaga’s Brazilian striker, Julio Baptista, spoke this lunchtime to the media in La Rosaleda’s press room.

Baptista’s statements:

(A point in Zaragoza). “The evaluation has to be good.  It’s all a work in progress that I think was well done.  We wanted to win and we had some chances, but when you can’t win, it’s important not to lose.  Little by little, I think we’re getting better, but we’re still not creating that many opportunities, but with time we hope that we’ll be able to create many more chances and nail them.”

(A good start). “Out of 15 possible points we have 10, and that’s important. Ruud and I aren’t scoring, but the team’s winning and little by little we hope to score and help out the team.  There’s a great secure defence, it’s something we do best.  We’ve the best defence with only two goals conceded, and that give you points in the long run and there’s always the possibility of winning.”

(Game analysis). “There are going to be many locked-down games, not great to watch, but we have to start to play differently knowing how different teams are going to play with us and then change our dynamic. I feel comfortable with everyone upfront, even though perhaps we not doing as well as those behind.  It’s a little more of an effort for us. Yesterday we had two clear chances: Ruud’s one and Seba’s at the end.  We hope that game by game we’ll be able to create more goal chances.  We had possession but Zaragoza were very close in the centre.  More speed was required on the ball, but they broke-up the play a lot and you could see that.”

(Toulalan’s reliability). “A fundamental player.  Little by little he’s getting more confident and he’s integrating better and feeling more at ease.  He’s a very, very important player.  It’s incredible to have a player with skills such as his – not only in his own execution, but he comes to you, he gives you passes…He’s an amazing player.”
