Atlético Malagueño’s promotion fate to be decided in Oviedo
In the first leg of the Second Division B play off, Atlético Malagueño played host to Universidad de Oviedo. The 2-2 draw means the ‘Malaguistas’ will need to win the return leg in Asturias in order to achieve promotion.
The visitors imposed a fast-paced rhythm during the first 20 minutes of play. However Clotet’s boys gradually began to take control as the first half progressed. Samu opened the scoring for the Blue and Whites (1-0) following a counter-attack.
Sergi Darder scored Malagueño’s second goal in the second half (2-0), however Universidad de Oviedo scored their first goal following a free kick by Jabuto (2-1). Control of the game switched to the visitors in the space of just four minutes. Two yellow cards for Sielva resulted in an unfair sending off for Malagueño, coupled with an unlucky free kick, which allowed Universidad de Oviedo to level up the score board, leaving the tie wide open for the return leg.
Despite being a man down for the remainder of the game, Atlético Malagueño still created numerous goal opportunities, whilst Universidad de Oviedo seemed content with the draw. The ‘Malaguistas’ now have to clinch a victory in the next match in order to achieve promotion to Second Division B.
