Málaga’s reserve team drew 1-1 against Universidad de Oviedo in the return leg of the promotion play-offs to Second Division B. The draw leaves the ‘Malaguistas’ unable to continue on in the fight for promotion.
During the first half, Atlético Malagueño imposed their own style of play, but failed to create any clear goal chances. Paco Aguza was sent off just before half-time, with Otero scoring from a penalty to put Oviedo 1-0 up. The ‘Malaguistas’ ended the first 45 minutes facing an uphill struggle to equalise in the second half.
Oviedo keeper, José committed a foul on Emilio Guerra, allowing the striker to level up the score board with a penalty (1-1). Despite being a player down, Clotet’s boys created numerous goal opportunities, but failed to take the lead during the remainder of the match. Due to the 2-2 draw in the first leg, and the value of away goals, Malagueño lost their promotion fight, after playing the first of three knock-out matches to qualify for promotion to Second Division B.
