Angeleri: “We’re determined to make the match as tough as possible for Barcelona”
Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Marcos Angeleri held a press conference this afternoon, to analyse the team’s performance, as well as his official debut at La Rosaleda on Sunday against Fútbol Club Barcelona.
Angeleri made his official debut with Málaga Club de Fútbol last Saturday against Valencia Club de Fútbol: “I think we put on a strong performance. Defensively we were really tight. Despite the end result, I believe we played well, it was a good match. We dominated possession and created opportunities to score, but we were up against a tough rival in front of their home crowd. We knew the game wasn’t going to be straightforward, but we made it difficult for Valencia too. Generally speaking, we played well and should be pleased with our performance.”
The Argentinean-born player analyses his personal performance at the Mestalla: “I’m happy with how I played on Saturday. I tried to do everything the coach asked of me, but I’ll have to see what my teammates thought of my debut performance. With regards to Chen, we both made our Blue and Whites’ debut against a difficult rival, in a tough game. I think we both performed well individually, as did the whole team in maintaining possession, particularly to avoid Banega’s danger area.”
Referring to Málaga Club de Fútbol’s next rival at La Rosaleda, Fútbol Club Barcelona, Angeleri is aware of the challenge ahead: “We’ve got a difficult initial few matches this season, and this weekend we’re up against one of the best teams in the League. Barcelona have players that are difficult to control, but not impossible. I think by working as hard as we can as a team, we can get a good result from this match, even though Barça are known for achieving big results. It’s important that we focus on the work we need to do, and take into account the high quality players we’ll be facing on Sunday. It’s always tough to mark players of that calibre. However this week is all about preparing to take on the mighty Barcelona and make the match as hard as possible for them. Will I get to play this weekend? It’s the coach who decides the team line-up, I’m focusing on training hard and awaiting my next opportunity to play.”
With regards to possible new signings, Angeleri adds: “It’s not something for me to talk about really. Whether additional players join the squad or not is a matter for the coaching team and the Club owners.”
