Málaga CF’s new signing, Italian-Argentinean-born Marcos Alberto Angeleri was presented this Wednesday afternoon at La Rosaleda. The team is departing for Germany in a few hours ahead of two friendly matches.
The former Estudiantes player states: “This is a big challenge for me. As soon as I knew I had the opportunity to join Málaga CF, I didn’t hesitate for a minute. I’m not just referring to the upcoming season, but of the amazing things I’ve heard about this team from former Blue and Whites’ players that have come to Argentina. Today’s been a great day and I’m determined to give my all to this team and fulfil the coaching team’s expectations. I’m looking forward to starting training as soon as possible and supporting the team as much as I can,” explains the new team member after his official presentation and welcome by Club Adviser, Francisco Martín Aguilar.
Angeleri is used to playing in midfield as well as a right winger, the position occupied by Jesús Gámez: “I know Jesús Gámez. It’s always important to have a certain level of healthy competition within a club, and to have as many players as possible, as this really helps towards personal development. Gámez is a great player, and I’m here to do what I can to support the team. I can play as a right winger and in midfield, I’ve also played in a three-player line formation and on the left wing. I always concentrate on delivery and putting my heart and soul into every match. I believe I’m good at controlling the ball in the air, and also strong and quick on the pitch.”
Playing in the Spanish League gives Angeleri the chance to face his compatriot Messi, which is also a big motivation: “It’s always great as a player to come up against big teams like Barça and major players, like the world’s best footballer, Lionel. I had the chance to play with him for Argentina, and I hope I can do it again soon.”
Angeleri had some excellent references about the team before coming to Málaga. The defender explains: “Players including Martín (Demichelis), Javier (Saviola), Willy (Caballero), Diego (Buonanotte)…all had very positive things to say about the Club. They told me Málaga CF is a fantastic team, great people, and the references to the Blue and Whites in Argentina are always good. I had absolutely no doubt I wanted to join this team as soon as I could.”
The new signing is eager to start work and get to know Bernd Schuster: “I’ve met the coach, and I’m looking forward to getting to know him over the next few days and ensure I’m match-fit for whenever he needs me. There are two friendlies coming up so I’m keen to show what I can do.”
