Málaga CF Femenino organised a double guard of honour for the last match of the season, to commemorate the promotion to the First Division and the treble win for the former Blue and Whites’ team.
#MálagaSPA left some very emotional moments for the Malaguista memory. In the last game in the promotion playoffs to the Women’s First Division, the MCF Foundation and Málaga CF Femenino paid tribute to Atlético Málaga on the 20th anniversary of winning the treble in 1998.
The three trophies - Liga, Copa de la Reina and Supercopa- were present on the pitch at the Municipal de Cártama and, just before kick-off, the former players of Atlético Málaga made a guard of honour for Málaga Femenino to celebrate their promotion to Liga Iberdrola. The current Blue and Whites’ players subsequently repeated the gesture for the Atlético Málaga players, thereby creating an historic and unprecedented champions’ guard of honour.
Statements by Alicia, ex Atlético Málaga player
“It’s an historic day, we’re delighted to be celebrating the 20th anniversary of winning the treble, and also want to congratulate Málaga Femenino for getting to the Liga Iberdrola, which they truly deserve. Málaga needed to climb as soon as possible, and this promotion is reward for all the girls’ hard work over the season”.
“The advice I could give them, which I’m sure they know, is to maintain the enthusiasm, work hard and enjoy it, as it’s not easy to reach the Liga Iberdrola. I hope they really enjoy such an exciting time, I’m certain they will”.
