It was a warm, clear evening at the Estadio Nuevo Mirador in Algeciras for Málaga CF’s first pre-season clash. In the stands, the home fans supported their team, recently promoted to 2B, and were the perfect hosts to the Malagueños who were welcomed to applause. There was a great deal of Blue and White in the crowd, as Málaga CF debuted the new shirt for the upcoming season, with fans eager to watch the action.

Homegrown players Ramón and Ismael Casas debuted with the first team in the first half and Málaga dominated the ball in the opening stages. With good command of the ball in attack and intelligent in defence, the visitors easily deflected the attempts by the home side. Despite no goals, 20 minutes into the game Víctor Sánchez del Amo’s men began to feel more comfortable on the pitch, and in 22’ a shot from Michael Santos almost found its way to the rival goal. The ball was deflected to a corner by goalkeeper, Romero.

The referee called for a break for both sides to rehydrate due to the intense heat, but the ball soon started rolling again. Algeciras approached the Blue and White goal – defended by Kellyan from 25’ when he substituted Cenk Gonen – but didn’t find the net. After 45 minutes the referee blew the half-time whistle without any additional time and the scoreboard remained level (0-0).

In the second half a renewed Blue and White squad stepped on to the pitch. Víctor Sánchez del Amo selected another 11 players in order to rotate all his footballers during this first match of the pre-season. Adrián wore the captain’s armband in the second half and in minute 60, homegrown keeper Gonzalo made his debut as he substituted Kellyan.

The match began to heat up in the second half and the Malaguistas tried their luck with a long shot from Juankar, but the ball sailed over the crossbar. Gonzalo remained strong in goal, impeding Algeciras from taking the lead, and the scoreboard still showed 0-0 in 72’.

Approaching the final minutes of play, Málaga advanced lines and tightened up on the attack, leading to a direct shot towards the target from Renato Santos in 85’ that was deflected by the Algeciras defence. Immediately afterwards, Adrián claimed the ball inside the area, but his attempt was saved by Romero.

There was no time for more and the first match of the pre-season at the Nuevo Mirador ended in a goalless draw (0-0).
